Importance Of My Life Changing Experience In College

On august 28, 2017 my life changed completely. I began my journey as a college student. I was extremely nervous, but excited at the same time. I waited for this moment for so long. After graduating high school in 2009, I was not able to attend a University do to my Immigration status in the United States, but luckily after 8 long years the wait was over. I was able to apply to Hawaii Pacific University and immediately was accepted. I remember walking around campus feeling so old. I was a 25-year-old, college freshman, surrounded by student’s fresh out of high school. I felt so out of place. Little did I realize, that college was going to be a total life changing experience for me. Nothing is given to you and the amount of work, sometimes can make you want to quit. I have learned that in order to achieve excellence you have work hard and sacri fice leisure times. A lot of the time I went to sleep late, editing, and typing essays. All my classes were demanding and required a lot of my time but thanks to my dedication and time managing skills, I’ve found college to be manageable. Another is that as an adult, you have to make your own schedule. You are given the freedom to pick classes as you please and I’ve found this a bit difficult. I was used to getting my high school schedule and following it. In college, you choose your classes and set your own routine. I was used to make my own decisions as a 25-year-old adult but had no idea of how to make a good class schedule for college. I found myself visiting the college advisors quite often. However, I used to see this as a bad thing, now I’ve come to realize that if I don’t understand something I have to seek help and learn how to do things related to college on my own. Third but not least, college has opened my eyes to my view of the world. It has taught me to not take life and blessings for granted. As I walk around HPU (Hawaii Pacific University) I’ve encountered a lot of homeless people. It breaks my heart to see these people less fortune than me living on the street.
